- Is Compensation Package More Than Market Value Dangerous?

2010/8/29

It can be thought that if you are receiving compensation package more than market
value, your compensation will be naturally down in the future.

If a company or an organization is doing business in a legally monopolized market,
the company or the organization will immediately lose profits if there is a change
in law or regulation.

If you work for those companies such as newspaper, media, public office, you have
to acquire skills which can bring profits in market before a change occurs. I personally
think that local government employees will be those who are under highest risk of losing
job or getting huge salary reduction in the future (in Japan).

The reason why government employees are largely being criticized will be that they
have been getting unreasonable compensation which is much higher than market value.
It is true that Japanese citizens are criticizing all government employees, but it will be
also true that most of government employees in Japan are enjoying much higher
compensation which is unreasonable in terms of market value.

Conversely, there will be a lot of government employees who deserve getting much
higher compensation, too. Competent and top government employees who handle crucial
works related to basic structure of whole Japan sometimes receive less salary than
those whose work standards are just worth around 900 Yen per hour. Or, such local
government employees whose jobs are just routine sometimes receive higher salary
because of seniority-based salary system deeply rooted in government organization
in Japan.

For another example, Japan newspaper and book industry are protected legally by a
strange system which does not allow retailers to reduce price on their own decision
in order to keep price. If this system is changed legally and deleted, sales amount of
publishers and newspaper companies will hugely decrease.

It is also a problem that people working in legally protected industries cannot have
a reality sense as people working in private sectors can naturally learn. Therefore,
those who work in protected industries tend to overvalue their competences
and/or not to make efforts because of the lack of reality sense. Human beings are
creatures who cannot understand things well without real experiences or facing realities.
