Japanese Young Women Want to Be Stay-At-Home Mom
- Sense of Value Has Started to Change, Especially,
Around 20's

2010/11/26

Kyodo Press reported it in their article on May, 2010. The rough summary is as follows:

"Husband should work outside and wife should concentrate on housework at home." The
percentage of women who have this sort of traditional thinking has started to increase
according to a survey done around July, 2008.

A specialist in the field of marriage and low birthrate said, "The number of temporary
workers has been going up and full time workers have to work for longer hours. This sort
of working environment which is going worse makes women less motivated to work outside.
So, it is natural that Japanese women have started to think that it's easier to do housework
at home and raise kids being a stay-at-home mom."

I pretty understand this situation considering the recent tough job market and working
environments. Even some men also think that they want to be a stay-at-home dad.

Some men (Japanese men in Japan company) say that recent 20's female workers (Japanese)
are more obedient and flexible, different from those over 30's, and easy and comfortable
to work with.

I think that recent young Japanese women carefully observed what has been happening on
those over 30's women who sought for career getting a wave of women's participation in society.

Single, tough working environment, layoff, hopeless (caused by Japan society, such as very
few or almost no second chance in career), unhappy, divorce, lost opportunity to find a good
man, etc.

It can be said that a career woman's ideal (in Japan society) has been just supported by
good economy where work pressure was much lighter than now and company's treatment was nice.
