Young Japanese People Don't Buy a Car

2010/11/25

This is often said in media in recent years and car manufactures, especially, Toyota.
Here is a rough and very short summary of the article which tries to analyze reasons:

Japanese people don't buy a car. The percentage of car sales in Japan went down by
around 40% compared to the peak period of 1990.

Bad economy is one of the reasons, but generally, it is said that young people are
going away from car.

However, the president of Toyota insisted, "The fact is that car manufacturers are
going away from young people, not young people going away from car."

I think that car manufacturers must know a pretty simple reason why young Japanese
people have started to lose interest in car and stopped to spend money on car. No money.

Many of young Japanese people cannot get a full-time job and around 40-50% of them work
as a temporary worker (or no job, simply).

Young people in Japan are kind of used as cheap labor force which supports big companies
in Japan. This method was welcomed very much, especially, Toyota as many of young people
in Japan must be aware of it.

No job, no money, no car.

No matter how many reasons the media tries to pick up and analyze, it is just stupid
because the simple and crystal clear reason does exist in Japan society.
